Logs, plots, RP, PRP, Levelling FAQs:

How do I submit logs? Are there any limits to how many I may submit?

You may submit four logs a week.

How will XP for logs be calculated?

XP will be calculated based on player level, player effort, and thematic accuracy.

What happens if a player leaves a plot in mid-stream? What about when a staffer running the plot is MIA?

Unfortunately, this happens. When the former occurs, it will be assumed that the player was for some reason struck unconscious or otherwise debilitated. If players leave for because they are being prom queens, a staffmember or friend will be asked to make decisions for that person until the situation is resolved.

What types of plots can I play in on Mercatia?

We are more than happy to accommodate a myriad of possible plot types. Mystery who-dun-its, Lovecraftian forays into the supernatural, naval piracy, adventure noire,.. All completely acceptable. We do expect that plotrunners respect the game's theme and the 'fourth wall' principle, and we strongly dissuade people from running plots that parallel current world affairs. We would -like- to see lots of adventure/exploration plots, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom meets Heart of Darkness. Political plots are great too, but make sure to @mail staff first! Also, we love some good old inter-faction confrontation.

What is a Plotmaster? How is a PM different from a Staff DM?

A plotmaster is an individual who has been sanctioned by staffmembers to run plots which affect the game's story arc or theme in some way. A plotmaster may 'drop in' on players on the grid and set forth events which have major consequences, and like the Staff DM, he is capable of killing players with his actions. Unlike the Staff DM, the Plotmaster does not deal with players about IC events relating to their personal lives or faction business, nor may he judge player-versus-player scenes. Plotmasters are held to extremely high standards of conduct, and we will not approve anyone to become a Plotmaster without rigorously proofing their attitudes and adherence to objectivity and fairness first.

Can players run plots?

Absolutely.

How do I apply to run a PRP?

You get some people in a room, run the PRP, and then send a log of what happened to an admin. Be sure to include the levels of players, and the levels and equipment of antagonists. We appreciate stats as well.

Enough with all this - what about the phat lewt?

Staffpersons will roll up loot for PRPs. Loot will be half-value for 'non fatal' PRPs, and full value for 'fatal' PRPS.

How do I submit a PRP log once the plot is done?

Mail it to a staffmember.

What sort of opponents can I use in a PRP?

Any opponents that are reasonable given the game theme. If you plan on using any particularly strange enemies, please consult a staff member.

What can we do in a PRP?

In-character actions equal in-character consequences. We'd prefer that most PRPs take place outside of the city, but if the nature of the PRP is cleared in advance, you could do pretty much anything. You just may not live through it.
